A Statistical Comparison on the Outbreak of Food Poisoning in Korea and Japan for Food Hygiene

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a statistical observation on outbreaks of food poisoning in Korean and Japanese during the period from 1981 to 1990. The average value of morbidity rate by fiscal year in Korean from 1971 to 1990 was 2.19 per 100, 000. population , and that of Japanese was 29.4. The mean value of case fatality rate in food poisoning by fiscal year in Korean was 1.72%. and that of Japanese was 0_03%. When comparing the rate of morbidity and case fatality between Korean and Japanese during same period, the morbidity rate of Japanese was much higher than that of Korean. However, the case fatality rate of patients in Korean was much higher then that of Japanese. Comparative observation of food poisoning by preparing facilities between Korean and Japanese were also made. In Korea, outbreaks occurred most frequency from home-made food, accounting for 48% of the total cases, and in Japan, restaurants, as the source for most frequent outbreaks accounted for 32.7% In the case of causative foods in Korea, the most common incrimination vehicles were seafood¢¥,, meat and animal products and grain and vegetables, including mushroom, respectively.
